Si Satchanalai was founded in 1250 as the second central city of the Sukhothai kingdom. The meaning of Si Satchanalai is: “City of good people”. Together with Sukhothai and Kamphaeng Phet it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns”. Si Satchanalai is not very often visited by foreign tourists. So if you go there you have the chance to have the park almost for yourself. The park can be explored on a rental bicycle. There are signs in English and Thai for the main sites explaining their history and backgrounds. Despite the temples and Buddha sculptures are old and in ruins they are still important as religious sites. On several places you will find fresh flowers and sometimes people doing prayers. Most foreign tourist prefer to go to Sukhothai (55 km south of Si Satchanalai) for their share of ancient temples. But the temples can also be visited as a day trip when staying in Sukhothai.
