Krabi

The province of Krabi is famous and often visited because of it’s beautiful coastline. Since the the coast of Krabi is the west-coast you can enjoy very beautiful sunsets here. The landscape is scattered with steep limestone cliffs both on the waters as on land. If you see a travel picture with a beautiful wooden boat from where the front tip peaks high above the water, it is very often taken in Krabi province.

Railey Beach
The province is home to one of the most famous beaches: Railey Beach (sometimes spelled as Rai Leh). This beach can only be reached by boat due to the steep lime stone cliffs that cut of the connection with the mainland. A good starting point is Ou Nang beach. From here it’s only a 15 minute boat trip. Krabi is also famous for its huge steep limestone cliffs. Both on land as in the sea. The rock formations are famous for rock climbing. There are several rock climbing schools and shops where they sell climbing gear. Although not allowed, the rock formations are also famous for base jumping and paragliding. Adventurous visitors can climb a steep path with a piece of rope to reach a viewpoint. Accommodation ranges from bungalows and mid-sized resorts in East Railay to a collection of luxury resorts on West Railay. The four main areas (beaches) of Railay consist of Phra Nang, West Railay, East Railay and Ton Sai.

Ou Nang to Railey Beach
As seen on this picture; Railay Beach has no road connection. Best way to reach it is by boat from Ou Nang.

From the coast of Ou Nang you can also book day trips with a long-tail boat to various other small islands. One of them is Koh Hong.

Also it is possible to book boat transfers to other bigger islands in the area like Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, or Koh Yao Yai.

Hot Springs, & Emerald Pool & Blue Lagoon
Sixty km south-east of Krabi Town are natural hot springs. The hot springs are natural hot-tub jacuzzis with water temperatures of 35-42°C. The water originates from volcanic chambers deep underground. Ten km away from the hot springs are the Emerald Pool and the Blue Lagoon. The warm crystal clear water is perfect for a swim. It’s one of Thailand’s most beautiful natural wonders. A few hundred meters from the Emerald Pool is the Blue Lagoon. Despite its beauty its not really suitable for swimming.

A holiday destination on it’s own in Krabi is Koh Lanta. Other islands that are worth travelling are Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai. They are between the coast of Krabi and the coast of Phuket.

The province can easily be reached through the international airport in Krabi town.
