The Similan Islands is a group of islands in the Andaman Sea (west coast) in southern Thailand, approximately 55 kilometres off the coast of Khao Lak. Koh Similan is the biggest out of a group of 9 islands. In 1982 this group of islands was declared a National Park. Most of the islands are uninhibited by people. Only on Koh Similan and Koh Miang are facilities for tourists. Its possible to rent a tent or a bungalow. The headquarters of the National Park guards is also on Koh Miang. Because of the absence of people living on most of the islands the nature and marine life is unspoiled. This makes the Similan Islands one of the worlds top diving locations.
Because it is a National Park every visitor have to pay an entrance fee. Foreigners pay 500 bath (children 100 bath) and Thai nationals pay 50 bath (children 20 bath). A diving fee is an additional 200 baht/day regardless of passport.
