Doi Inthanon National Park is located in the north west of Thailand, close to Chiang Mai. It has the highest mountain peak of Thailand (2.565 meter!) and is approximately 1000 square kilometers big.
Doi Inthanon received it’s name by the last king of the Lanna Kingdom, king Inthawichayanon. After his death in 1897 a temple was constructed on top the highest mountain in this area to keep his remains. The road to the top of the mountain has many curves and will give you beautiful views over the stunning landscape. The top of the mountain is flat and very often surrounded by clouds. The temperature on a mountain can be quite low, especially when compared to the tropical temperatures at sea level. So it is wise to take some extra clothing with you. The area is home to some of the so called Hill Tribe communities as the Karen and the Hmong.
There are two Twin Pagodas (temples) built by the Thai Air force in honor of their Majesties King and Queen for their 60th Birthday Anniversaries. A visitors center nearby contains tourist information both in Thai and English.
One of the main walking trails is the Ang-ka Nature Trail. The 360m trail passes through a lush valley of moss cover tress, wild orchids and rare bird species.
