Koh Chang means elephant island. After Phuket it is Thailand’s second largest island, measuring 217 square km in size.. It it is one of the often visited islands between Bangkok and the border with Cambodia. The island is located north west of Koh Kood with a series of smaller islands in between them. Both the islands can be reached from Trat city. There is also a ferry between them. The highest point on the island is the 744 meter high Khao Salak Phet mountain. From this mountains there are rivers and waterfalls running down. The island is part of the Koh Chang Marine Park. This is a protected area with 47 islands and has an area of 650km². This makes Koh Chang and surrounding islands very suitable for scuba diving and snorkelling. Especially the islands located south east of Koh Chang are popular diving spots due to the sunken war ships in this area. The main tourist services are located on the west side of the island.
